Week 5: Heron's Head Park

This week, we improvised. After doing chores and errands in the morning, Eric headed into his clay studio to work on a few pieces and Lina and I took the opportunity explore a part of the city we never have an excuse to spend time in.

Heron's Head Park is located on the southern side of the city, in Bayview-Hunters Point. It was started as a Bay fill project to create Pier 98, but was never completed and eventually a salt marsh developed. It is now primarily a wetland restoration area, with a trail that snakes out into bay, an ecology learning center, and a small dog park. There seemed to be a strong sense of community within this small park. It made for an enjoyable afternoon and Lina had a blast (even meeting a friend who offered homemade beef jerky!).

A strange meeting of nature with (decaying) industrial.

Looking north along the bay; the Bay Bridge is barely visible in the distance.
